Okay, it's not the WHOLE brain, but saying it's just the hippocampus doesn't do it justice, either.
The job of the hippocampus appears to be to "encode" experiences so they can be stored as long-term memories elsewhere in the brain. "If you lose your hippocampus you only lose the ability to store new memories," says Berger.
Soooo... would you be able to forget? As much as I forget things, I'd rather forget too much than remember too much.
